Good news for parents and caregivers!

The Ministry of Health has extended the free influenza (flu) vaccine to children from 6 months old up to 5 years old as of 1st of September 2026.

Eligibility:

• all children 6 months to under 5 years

• no medical criteria needed

The flu vaccine is also funded for:

• People aged 65 years and over

• People under 65 with health conditions that put them at higher risk of serious illness

• Pregnant women

‍Dosage:

• those aged from 4 years - 1 dose

• those aged 3 years and under who are receiving their first flu vaccine - 2 doses, 4 weeks apart

  • for those having their first dose late in the season, it may not be practical to have a second dose this year, but a single dose will still offer some protection and will mean that only one dose is required next year

There are currently increasing numbers of flu cases in the community, so vaccination is an important way to help protect your child from influenza and reduce the risk of serious illness.
