Milford Medical News

In the wake of the recent security incident involving MMH, many people face increased risks of scams and phishing attempts. Criminals often exploit such events to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information. Staying vigilant is essential to protect your personal data and avoid falling victim to fraud. This post offers clear, practical advice on how to recognize scams, secure your accounts, and respond safely if you are contacted about this incident.

Recognize Common Scam Tactics

Scammers use various methods to deceive people, especially after a data breach or security incident. Here are some common tactics to watch for:

  • Unexpected emails, texts, or phone calls claiming to be from MMH, or related organizations. These messages may ask for passwords, one-time codes, or personal details.

  • Urgent or threatening language designed to pressure you into quick action.

  • Links or attachments that lead to fake websites or install malware.

  • Requests for payment or financial information to "resolve" the issue.

Remember, MMH and our practice will never ask for your password or one-time codes by email, text, or phone. If you receive such requests, do not respond or click any links.

How MMH Will Contact You If Affected

If your information was involved in the incident, MMH will reach out directly using the email address you registered with your MMH account. This official communication will include:

  • Clear details about the incident and what it means for you.

  • An official 0800 support number to call for help.

  • Instructions on steps you should take to protect your information.

Be cautious of any messages that do not come from your registered email or that lack the official support number. Always verify the sender’s email address carefully.

Steps to Secure Your Accounts

Taking immediate action to protect your accounts can reduce the risk of further problems. Follow these steps:

  • Change your MMH password as soon as possible. If you use the same password on other sites, change those too.

  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your MMH account and any other accounts that support it. MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step.

  • Review your account activity regularly for any suspicious logins or changes.

  • Use strong, unique passwords for each account. Consider using a reputable password manager to keep track of them.

Avoid Engaging With Hackers

Police advice is clear: do not engage with criminal groups claiming to have your data. Responding to these groups can expose you to further risks, including blackmail or identity theft. Instead:

  • Report suspicious messages or calls to the authorities.

  • Forward scam emails to MMH’s official support or fraud teams.

  • Block phone numbers or email addresses that contact you with suspicious requests.

Ignoring these attempts is often the safest approach.

Stay Informed and Vigilant

Cybercriminals constantly change their tactics. Staying informed about the latest scams and security advice helps you stay one step ahead. Consider these tips:

  • Follow official MMH updates through their website or verified communication channels.

  • Educate family and friends about the risks and signs of scams.

  • Use security software on your devices and keep it updated.

  • Regularly back up important data to protect against ransomware or data loss.

Taking these precautions builds a strong defense against scams and protects your personal information.

Looking ahead to 2026: Prescription changes

You may have seen recent news about the Government's plan to introduce 12-month prescription options from February 2026. We want to clarify what this means for you.

While the policy allows for up to 12-month prescriptions, the decision will remain at the discretion of your prescribing doctor. Our responsibility is to ensure your health and safety, and that means prescribing in a way that matches your clinical needs.

Important: Even if your prescription is written for 12 months, your medicines must still be collected at the same pharmacy at the usual monthly or 3-monthly intervals set by Pharmac. This change does not affect controlled drugs, which continue to follow their standard prescribing and dispensing rules.

What to expect:

  • For most people, prescriptions will continue to be provided at normal intervals

  • Controlled drugs can only legally be prescribed monthly, so this will continue

  • If your condition is stable, your medication is suitable for annual prescribing, and you've attended a yearly in-person review, we may be able to offer a 12-month prescription

  • For situations involving multiple medications, regular monitoring requirements, or new medication changes, prescriptions will continue at normal intervals

Thank you for your understanding, and for working with us to keep you well.

Season's Greetings

From all of us at Milford Family Medical Centre, we wish you and your family a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season. We look forward to continuing to serve our Milford community in 2026.

Warm regards,

The Team at Milford Family Medical Centre

Two measles vaccinations protect about 99% of people.

The vaccine is free for under‑18s and for adults eligible for funded care. Not sure if you’ve had two doses? We can help you check and catch up if required. If you have a fever and a rash, please call us before coming into the practice as measles is very contagious
